Race 5: Frigid 5k Warsaw

Frigid 5k on New Year's Day!

Sarah and I are going to brave the elements and kick off the New Year  by doing the Frigid 5k in Warsaw on New Year's Day. The race starts at 1:00pm--that is a good thing:)  Looking forward to it!

Here are some before and after pictures of Scout last New Year's Eve. I think he learned his lesson to lay off the toilet bowl water.

Race 4 Recap: The Santa Hustle 5k Indy

We are in there...somewhere. Sort of looks like a page out of a Where's Waldo? book but we know Waldo didn't make it to this race.

On December 16, 2012, we did the Santa Hustle. We had perfect weather! The race was super organized and very energetic and fun! It will definitely be on my Christmas wish list for next year.  We stayed at the new JW Marriott in down town Indy. Very nice! Great food and lots of shopping in a short period of time. Power shopping! Can't wait to head back down next year. Hopefully, we can get even more people to join in the festivities.

Here we are before the race. You can almost hear the sleigh bells in the distance. Almost. We all decided not to shave that morning. It is such a pain!

Giant, scary reindeer to keep...
the real reindeer in line. You know, just in case he decides to fly away.

Our leader.
A man of no words but he is very grounded.

"Here come Santa Claus(es), Here come Santa Claus(es) right down Santa Claus(es) Lane..."
We are still standing after power shopping!  Starbucks was closed:(
I liked this girls shirt so I asked her to take a picture with me. She was a good sport about it.

Thank you Carole, Sarah, and Taylor!!!

*Info for the January event coming soon! Fridgid 5k on New Years's Day! Sarah is going to brave the elements with me!!! I left my camera at Waldo's house on Christmas:(

Race 4: Indianaplois Santa Hustle 5k and Half Marathon

Where's Ginger?

Santa Hustle Indianapolis 5k and Half Marathon
On December 16th, we will be hitting the streets of Indy to do the Santa Hustle 5k! I am so looking forward to this race. First, everyone will be dressed in holiday gear: Santa hat, Santa beard, Santa dri-fit shirt and any extra holiday props one would want to add to the ensemble.  Second, Christmas music will be played throughout the course. Third, cookies and candy will be served along the course! That is what convinced me to do this race. We can’t go wrong! Along with the  miles put in during the race, there will be many more pre-race miles put in on Saturday SHOPPING!

Another beautiful race day! We had a perfect fall morning to go out for a morning walk. I will let the pictures do the talking…

Race 2 Recap: WN 5k Zombie Run

Bat Girl, Pirate Girl, Wonder Girl!!!!

Zombie Run!
Saturday, November 3, 2012
What a great way to spend a Saturday evening!  The smell of fall was in the air, and colorful leaves were crunching under our tennis shoes.  We were given two flags (think flag football) and the object was to not let the zombies get your flags. If they did get your flags, you were “dead”.  There was no shortage of Zombies trying to get our flags. Also, add to the mix that many of the zombies were students and we are teachers. Yikes!  Sarah...er, um I mean Pirate Girl was able to hold on to both of her flags for most of the race. In the end, the zombies wonL  Pirate Girl came up with a great strategy to use against the flag, grabbing zombies next year. It is top secret but I will say this-the zombies won’t stand a chance!!  We had a lot of fun participating in the First Annual Zombie 5k Run! Thanks Carole and Sarah!  Our next running adventure will be in a couple of weeks. We will be doing the Turkey Trot!

Race 1 Recap: Pumpkin Run

Thanks Sarah, Lisa, and John for running with me!

Pumpkin Run 2012

Great race for the 12-12-12 kick off! It was a little chilly but that is to be expected in Indiana mid-October. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to kick things off. Just a great way to spend a Saturday morning on a cool, crisp fall day.

Sarah! She is the one standing by the pumpkin. I have no idea where the pumpkin came from. Stalker! Why is he holding up the number six? Is it code for something? Is he trying to combine a "Hi" with a "Number One" sign. hmmm?

My brother, John, and Lisa. It was so great having them there! I had to edit out the cigarette that was dangling from John's mouth because of the "No Smoking" sign on the tree. He is such a rebel!
Off we go!

This race was to benefit Parkview Whitley County Hospital. We lost our mom to cancer way too soon. Her name was Joyce Marano. She was beautiful and strong.  If she was still alive, she would have been at the race with extra hats and gloves because she wouldn't want anyone to be cold. Oh, and she would have had a hat for me. She was always worried about my ears getting cold--no matter my age. I miss how much she loved me.

I don't know how Scout managed to get his eyes to glow but he did it! This is more of a Mumzie (mummy/zombie)! Video coming soon of Scout, my training partner, during one of our training sessions. Pretty funny.

Race 1: The Pumpkin Race

"Ladies and Gentleman! The first race in 12-12-12 Series is, drumroll please, The 4th Annual Pumpkin Run!"
The Pumpkin Run

We are off! The first race in the 12 Months-12 Races-12 Friends is the 4th Annual Pumpkin Run in Columbia City on October 13, 2012. The Pumpkin Run is all about honoring the memory of a loved one.  I have decided to sign-up for the walk because it has been forever since my tennis shoes hit the pavement. My goal is to run (jog) the October race. I am easing my way back into running.

Here is the link with information and registration:

https://www.parkviewfoundations.org/you-can-help/events/single/2011/12/30/parkview-whitley-hospice-pumpkin-run

I hope some of you out there will be able to make it to the race. Better, yet, bring a friend along with you!

Scout will be making the announcement for the November Race soon!

Side note: You can honor the memory of your loved one with a commemorative sign in the pumpkin patch and/or having his/her name put on your race shirt sleeve. All proceeds go to Parkview Whitley Hospice.

Scout: Official Race Mascot

"Beep, beep...come on, let's run!"

Scout will be making all of the race announcements throughout this 12 month journey. More than likely, he will be attending most of the races. He is taking this job very seriously. He is insisting on dressing-up for every race announcement. I told him he wasn't getting paid but he barked it wasn't about the money. He is probably hoping a girlie golden might see this blog and be taken with him.
